#TCCBasketball: Eagles earn No. 7 seed, first-round bye in Lubbock

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 18, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College has earned the No. 7 seed in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.

By earning a top eight seed, the Eagles also get a first-round bye in the 24-team, single-elimination tournament in Lubbock, Texas. All games will be played inside the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University.

Tallahassee won’t play its opening game until 9 p.m. eastern on Tuesday. The Eagles’ opponent will be determined Monday evening – the winner of the 10/23 game between tenth-seed Shelton (Ala.) State Community College (30-2) and No. 23 North Dakota State College of Science (30-3).

Panhandle Conference and FCSAA state champion Gulf Coast State College received the tournament’s No. 1 seed while conference rival and state runners-up Chipola College is seeded third. As a result, Gulf Coast State will avoid a fifth meeting against either Tallahassee or Chipola unless the teams are playing for the national championship one week from tonight.

Tallahassee and Chipola are on the same half of the bracket but can only meet in the national semifinals, which take place Friday, March 24.

Tallahassee’s only other appearance in the NJCAA Tournament was in 2001, when the Eagles brought home a third-place finish.

All NJCAA Tournament games will be streamed live on NJCAA TV, which is available on both desktop and mobile/tablet devices on most default web browsers.

NJCAA TV streaming platforms are also available on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku.
