TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 13, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team delivered another dominating performance on Wednesday, defeating ASA College Miami, 101-21, at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.
The win improved the Eagles to 11-0, breaking a 21-year old record for the best start to a season in school history. The 1996-97 squad opened with ten consecutive victories. It also moved Tallahassee within one win of tying the longest winning streak in school history – the Eagles have won 12 straight on two occasions, most recently during the 2016-17 season.
Wednesday's victory will also go down in the record books for the fewest points Tallahassee has ever allowed in a game. The previous mark, set almost two years ago to the day – on December 15, 2015 – was 22 points scored by Bishop (Ala.) State Community College.
The Silver Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead and the game was later tied at six before Tallahassee put things in high gear. A 19-2 run turned into a 29-10 lead after the first quarter for the host.
The Eagles outscored ASA 52-7 combined over the second and third quarters then delivered a 20-4 advantage in the fourth.
Tallahassee converted 45-of-87 field goal attempts (51.7 percent) on Wednesday while limiting ASA to just 15.8 percent shooting (9-of-57) and 3-of-30 in the second half.
The Eagles forced 30 turnovers and turned those into 51 points, many in transition which led to a 66-8 advantage in points in the paint.
Jas Hill led five players in double-figures for Tallahassee with 25 points. Victoria Pearce and Japonica James had 14 points each. Mari Hill scored 11 and Dawn Gipson, 10.
Tallahassee will return to play at 2 p.m. Sunday when it welcomes Palm Beach State College.
