#TCCBasketball: Eagle women fend off Pirates
PENSACOLA, Fla. (February 7, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team knocked off Pensacola State College, 66-57, on Wednesday evening.
Tallahassee (19-4) snapped a two-game losing streak and evened its Panhandle Conference record at 4-4 to keep pace with Gulf Coast State College (7-1) and Northwest Florida State College (6-2), who sit ahead of the Eagles in the league standings.
The loss eliminated Pensacola State (17-7, 1-7 PC) from postseason contention.
Tallahassee threatened to run away with things early, scoring 11 unanswered points to start the game. Pensacola State settled down, however, and trailed just 17-9 at the end of the first quarter and was within three, 29-26, at the intermission.
Tallahassee's lead was just four, 37-33, as the midway point of the third quarter approached but stretched the lead to double-digits (48-38) by the end of the quarter.
A 5-0 spurt in the opening minute of the fourth pushed the Eagles' lead to 53-38 but Pensacola State hung around thanks to a 15-6 run and trailed just 59-53 with 3:00 remaining.
Tallahassee finally put the game on ice with a 7-0 run, capped by Nakiah Black's layup with 1:30 left.
Black led Tallahassee with 21 points. Japonica James scored 20 and Jas Hill, 11.
The Eagles will travel to Gulf Coast State College on Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. eastern tip against the Commodores.
