#TCCBasketball: Eagle women fall to Gulf Coast State

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (February 10, 2018) – NJCAA No. 2/Region 8 No. 1 Gulf Coast State College hit a school-record 19 three-pointers in a 110-94 win over No. 9/No. 3 Tallahassee Community College on Saturday evening. 

Tallahassee is now 19-5 overall, 4-5 in Panhandle Conference play, three games back of second-place Northwest Florida State College (8-2) with three games to play, meaning the only way the Eagles can guarantee themselves a postseason berth is to win out and get enough help to force a one-game playoff against the Raiders. 

Gulf Coast State (20-2, 8-1) locked up one of the Panhandle's two postseason berths with the win. 

The Commodores' three-point barrage began from the opening tip. Three straight from long distance resulted in a 9-0 lead and Gulf Coast State eventually hit five en route to a 27-15 lead after the first quarter. 

A three-pointer by Janesha Green, the Commodores' ninth of the half, increased the lead to 45-19 at the 4:58 mark of the second quarter. 

Tallahassee put together its best stretch of the half, closing on a 13-4 run, but still trailed by 20 (56-36) at the intermission. 

As the three-pointers continued to mount, so did Gulf Coast State's lead. It reached as many as 29 before Tallahassee outscored the Commodores 19-10 over the final five minutes to pull back within 20 (84-64). 

Tallahassee outscored Gulf Coast State in the fourth quarter, 30-26, including 14-5 over the final 3:52, though any hopes of a miraculous comeback had been stymied by the Commodores' 19-of-26 (73.1 percent) performance from distance. 

Gulf Coast State shot 37-of-60 (61.7 percent) overall. 

Nakiah Black's career-high 30 points led Tallahassee. Japonica James added 22 and Juliunn Redmond, 17. 

Tallahassee will close the PC schedule with two of its final three games at home beginning with Tuesday's visit by Chipola College. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
