#TCCBasketball: Eagles roll past Daytona State in FCSAA opener

OCALA, Fla. (March 8, 2018) – Five players scored in double-figures for NJCAA No. 7 Tallahassee Community College in the Eagles' 86-60 win over Daytona State College in Thursday's quarterfinal round at the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Basketball Tournament. 

Tallahassee (24-5) advances to Friday's 8 p.m. semifinal against Eastern Florida State College, who beat Miami Dade College, 108-89, in another of Thursday's quarterfinal pairings. 

A slow start left Tallahassee with an early 13-6 deficit, but the Eagles closed the first quarter on a 13-3 run and led 19-16 after the first ten minutes. Tallahassee led 40-29 at the half. 

The Eagles put the game away in the third, outscoring the Falcons, 29-18, and increased their lead to as many as 29, 81-52, late in the fourth quarter. 

Nakiah Black led Tallahassee's quintet of double-figure scorers with 17 points. Japonica James had 13. 

Jada Perry came off the bench to score 12 and grab nine rebounds. Ayanna Mazyck also reached double-digits in a reserve role, scoring 11. 

Dawn Gipson had 10.

The Tallahassee-Eastern Florida State will advance to Saturday's 7:30 p.m. championship game against the winner of Gulf Coast State College-Florida SouthWestern State College.
