State XC champion Meagan Giddens to run outdoor track for TCC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 2, 2018) – In October, Tallahassee Community College's Meagan Giddens won the Eagles' first cross country state championship. 

On Saturday, Giddens is slated to participate in the North Florida Speed All-Ages Track Meet at Lincoln High School, officially marking a "soft launch" into the Eagles' seventh NJCAA sport, according to director of athletics Rob Chaney. 

"(Head cross country coach) Gary (Droze) and I have discussed this since adding cross country (in 2016)," Chaney said. "This year, Meagan had an interest in running in the spring, it will enhance her recruiting profile and it allows TCC to better understand what it will take to be fully committed (to the sport) going forward." 

Giddens, who is from Perry, Fla., transferred to TCC after running cross country as a freshman at Florida Atlantic University in 2015. She quickly emerged as the Eagles' top runner in the fall and capped her sophomore season by winning the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Championship and being named FCSAA Runner of the Year. 

Four of Giddens' six spring events will take place in Tallahassee, highlighted by the FAMU Relays (March 3), FSU Relays (March 23-24) and Seminole Twilight (May 4). 

She will also run in the Alice Coachman Invitational in Albany, Ga., (March 31) and the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla. (April 27).
