TCC track returns this weekend

2021 Men's Track Schedule | 2021 Women's Track Schedule

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 25, 2021) – The last of Tallahassee Community College's spring sports will kick off this weekend when track and field hosts the TCC Eagle Invite at Maclay School's Frank Shaw Field.

Due to provisions made by the NJCAA as a result of COVID-19 and its impact on the athletics landscape in 2020-21, Saturday's meet will officially be considered an indoor event.

Events scheduled for Saturday include: men's and women's 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m, as well as a combined 5000m.

In addition to TCC, neighboring Thomas (Ga.) University will compete in an official capacity while the event will also see unattached participants from Daytona State College, Florida State College at Jacksonville and Seminole State College.

Followers of the Eagles will be most interested in the women's 800m, where sophomore Mia Wiederkehr will be gunning for a qualifying time to the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, scheduled for March 5-6 in Pittsburg, Kan.

Wiederkehr graduated from TCC's dental hygiene program last Spring but re-enrolled this semester for the sole purpose of a second take on her sophomore season on the track. Like all spring sports student-athletes, Wiederkehr's 2020 season was lost due to the pandemic, however, the NJCAA granted Spring 2020 graduates a one-time exception to participate in 2021 as a part-time student after last year was deemed a season of non-participation. She ran cross country for the Eagles in 2016 and 2018.

Wiederkehr, who qualified for outdoor nationals in the 800m in 2019, has a career-best time of 2:20.80. The 2021 NJCAA qualifying mark is 2:24.33.

Saturday's meet is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
