Eagles rally to sweep pair from Central Alabama at TCC Diamond Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 9, 2013) – Matt Bahnick's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth scored Anthony Torres from third with the game-winning run and gave FCSAA No. 2 Tallahassee Community College a 6-5, come-from-behind win and a doubleheader sweep of Central Alabama Community College in Saturday action at the TCC Diamond Classic.

Tallahassee won the opener, 5-1, and finished with three wins in four games at the three-day event.

The Eagles (10-2) rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the nightcap to notch their third win over the Trojans this season and tenth victory overall.

Torres drew a leadoff walk to start the ninth, moved into scoring position on Clay Fenwick's sac bunt and stole third, setting the stage for Bahnick, who smacked the game-winning hit up the middle and through the Trojans' drawn-in infield.

Central Alabama took a 5-0 lead against game two starter Robert Garcia and knocked out the righty after just 2.2 innings.

With both games of the doubleheader scheduled for seven innings, Tallahassee was down to its final six outs, still looking at a five-run deficit.

The Eagles got right back in the game on one swing of the bat – a three-run homer by Tyler York. Later in the inning, Torres singled home John Price, Jr., to cut Central Alabama's lead to 5-4.

Tallahassee still had work to do in the bottom of the seventh. Fenwick and Bahnick were both hit by pitches to start the inning. Fenwick advanced to third on Trent Higginbothem's fly out to right then scored the tying run on York's sac-fly to center.

York finished 1-for-3 with four RBI in game two. Torres, Fenwick and Price, Jr., had two hits each.

Jared Stanley (3-0) pitched the final 1.3 innings to earn the win, his third of the season.

In the opener, Patrick Riley (1-0) scattered seven hits over 4.2 innings but only allowed one run and picked up the win in Tallahassee's 5-1 victory.

Central Alabama stranded seven runners through the first five innings, thanks largely to a pair of double-plays turned by the Eagles' defense.

Tallahassee broke a scoreless tie in the third when Kevin Cruz drew a bases-loaded walk to score Fenwick. The Eagles added three more runs an inning later, highlighted by Higginbothem's two-run double.

Central Alabama scored its run in the top of the fifth, but Tallahassee answered in the bottom half courtesy of another bases-loaded walk by the Cruz-Fenwick duo. This time, Fenwick drew the free pass to plate Cruz.

Tallahassee managed only five hits in game one. Fenwick recorded two RBI despite going 0-for-1. Higginbothem was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Tallahassee will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts St. Johns River State College at 4 p.m.

Tallahassee Community College Athletics would like to thank the Leon County Tourist Development Council for its support of the TCC Diamond Classic.
