Roll On! The #BirdGang sweeps Brewton-Parker JV

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 10, 2014) – NJCAA No. 16/FCSAA No. 2 Tallahassee Community College scored eight unanswered runs to break a 4-all tie and claim a 12-4, game two victory over Brewton-Parker College's JV squad and complete a doubleheader sweep of the Barons on Monday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Tallahassee opened the day with a 9-3 win in game one.

In the nightcap, Brewton-Parker rallied from four runs down to tie things up then the Eagles played small ball to set up the go-ahead hit.

Cody Borup led off the home half of the fourth with a single to center, and the next two batters, Ryne Willard and Jonathan Burkett, bunted their way on to load the bases.

D.J. McKnight, who homered in game one, cleared the bases with a triple to deep right-center. He later scored on Quincy Nieporte's ground out to third and gave the Eagles an 8-4 lead.

McKnight tripled again in the fifth to score Willard and cap a three-run inning and Ricky Negron's RBI-single in the sixth plated Johnny Blue Craig to finish the game two scoring.

McKnight was 2-for-4 with four RBI in game two and went 5-for-8 with six RBI in the doubleheader.

Willard was 3-for-4 and scored three times in game two. Borup (2-for-3), Nieporte (2-for-3) and Cole Johnson (2-for-4) also had multi-hit games.

Ben Levine, who pitched two innings in relief of starter Micah Dunn, was credited with the victory.

In the opener, Ryan Deckert started and went five innings to earn the victory in the Eagles' 9-3 triumph.

He scattered six hits and walked none while striking out five.

Connor O'Brien, who inherited a 5-2 lead in the sixth, pitched the final two innings to record the save.

The Eagles gave O'Brien some breathing room by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Bobby Rice's bases-loaded single scored Burkett and Geremy Walton. McKnight singled home Willard, and Rice later scored on a wild pitch.

Rice was 2-for-4 with three RBI. He, Walton, Willard and Burkett scored two runs apiece. Those four, along with McKnight, enjoyed multi-hit games in the opener.

Tallahassee, now 26-5 and winners of 14 straight games, will close its non-conference schedule with a doubleheader at Thomas University's JV squad on Tuesday.
