#TCCBaseball falls to Shelton State in extras

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 13, 2016) – Shelton (Ala.) State Community College scored two runs in the top of the eleventh inning and defeated NJCAA Region 8 No. 1 Tallahassee Community College, 9-7, to even the teams' three-game series at a game apiece.

The teams will play the rubber game at 1 p.m. Sunday. The game can be seen live on TCCeagles.com.

Tallahassee had Saturday's game in hand, leading 7-3 through six innings but the Buccaneers scored three runs in the seventh then tied the game in the ninth against Eagles' closer Brooks Buckler, who took the loss.

In the eleventh, a one-out single then consecutive errors by shortstop Deyvid Silva and second baseman Josh Nothdorft plated the tie-breaking run. A passed ball scored Davis Cox from third with the second run of the inning.

Tallahassee brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the eleventh but Tyler Maley grounded out to pitcher Tanner Luker for the final out of the game.

Luker, who came on after a leadoff walk to Bret Maxwell, recorded the final three outs and picked up the save for Austin Williams, who pitched two scoreless innings.

Tallahassee broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.

In the fifth, consecutive singles by Kyle Cavanaugh and Manny Chavarria scored runs and put the Eagles in front, 5-3. Cavanaugh drove in two more in the sixth with a double down the left field line.

Cavanaugh finished 2-for-6 with four RBIs.

Zach Featherstone was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one driven in.

Chavarria and Myron Mebane also had two hits each.
