Craig Olson named NJCAA DI Baseball Pitcher of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 11, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College’s Craig Olson has been named Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week by the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Olson was named NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
A native of Wilton Manors, Fla., Olson was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period which began January 29 and ended February 7.
“I couldn’t be more proud of a former walk-on,” said Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod. “He’s a very atypical, low velocity guy who’s proven he can pitch and get batters out at a high level."
Olson, a southpaw, has opened the season with consecutive seven-inning, two-hit shutouts, including one against NJCAA No. 5 Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College on January 29 in which he came within two outs of a no-hitter.
He followed that with another two-hitter on February 6 against East Georgia State College in the Eagles’ 1-0 victory.
In 14 total innings of work, Olson has allowed only four hits and three walks while striking out seven.
Olson and the Region 8 No. 1 Eagles will open a three-game series with Shelton (Ala.) State Community College at 4 p.m. Friday at Eagle Field.
