Eagles roll past ABAC

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 23, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team beat Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College, 13-1, on Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Field.

Tallahassee is 8-9 on the season and will try to reach .500 for the season when it travels to Florida State College at Jacksonville for Wednesday's 4 p.m. first pitch.

The Eagles spotted ABAC an early lead when Henry Daniels hit a solo homer in the second off starter Patrick Libby, and the score remained 1-0 as Tallahassee came to bat in the fourth.

With the bases loaded and two outs, Daniel Bernstein roped a double down the left field line to score Spencer Hanson and Dilan Lawson

Lawson's run proved to be the game-winner, but there was plenty of scoring left to come.

Lawson hit a two-run homer in the fifth then the Eagles blew the game wide open with four runs in the sixth. Andrew Fernandez doubled home Brendan Power and Bryson Kirksey for the first two runs of the inning. With two runners on, Lawson hit a rocket that ricocheted off third baseman Sam Bennett, scoring Hanson and Fernandez for an 8-1 lead.

Kirksey tripled home two runs to start the seventh inning scoring, and he later scored on a wild pitch. A sac-fly by Fernandez and a run-scoring double by pinch hitter Stan King put the Eagles in front, 13-1.

After yielding the second-inning home run, Libby (3-1) didn't allow another hit until Justin Rome's leadoff single in the sixth. He walked four batters over 5.2 innings but was the beneficiary of three double plays from the Eagle defense.

Relievers Dylan Faulkner, Joey Silvestri and Albert Padron combined to allow just one hit and one walk over the final 3.1 innings.

Tallahassee finished with 15 hits – all but one coming from the fourth inning on.

Lawson was 3-for-5 with four RBI. Kirksey was 2-for-5 with two RBI, Hanson was 2-for-3 and scored three times, Fernandez drove in three runs, and Brendan Power was 3-for-3 and walked twice.

SCHEDULE UPDATE: Sunday's game against South Georgia State College, originally scheduled to be played at Eagle Field, will now be played in Douglas, Ga. First pitch is 2 p.m.
