Eagles fall to South Georgia State

DOUGLAS, Ga. (February 28, 2021) – Tuesday's baseball doubleheader between Tallahassee Community College and Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College was postponed due to rain and is not expected to be made up.

On Sunday, the Eagles fell to South Georgia State College, 11-6, in Douglas, Ga.

Tallahassee sent starting pitcher Dilan Lawson back out to start the seventh with a 4-2 lead but a one-out error negated a potential inning-ending double play, instead paving the way for a four-running inning by the Hawks.

Lawson (0-4) exited after 6.1 innings and was charged with five runs, though only two were earned. He struck out seven.

The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the fourth when Spencer Hanson singled home Jeissy De La Cruz, who led off the inning with a double.

After South Georgia State took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth, Tallahassee answered with three in the top of the seventh.

Trent Jeffcoat's RBI-single tied the game at 2-2. De La Cruz's sac-fly scored Orlando Adams, and Jeffcoat later came home on a double by Hanson.

Tallahassee scored a run in the eighth to pull within 6-5, but the Hawks blew the game open with five runs in the bottom half.

Hanson went 3-for-5 with three RBI. Andrew Fernandez and Adams were both 2-for-4.
