Eagles fall to the Pirates
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 30, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College fell to Pensacola State, 6-2, on Tuesday evening in game one of the teams' four-game series.
The Eagles drop to 12-22 overall and 3-10 in PC play.
Pensacola State started off the scoring in the top of the fourth inning with a Darrien McDowell solo homerun to right center field.
The Eagles bounced back in the bottom of the fifth. Centerfielder Bryson Kirksey led off with a single to center before making his way to third base later in the inning on a balk and passed ball.
Orlando Adams stepped up with two outs and launched a triple off the wall in right center scoring Kirksey and evening up the score at 1-1. Trent Jeffcoat followed the Adams' at-bat with an RBI single giving Tallahassee the 2-1 advantage.
However, the lead was short lived. Pensacola State reached base on a leadoff single by Bayron Acevedo in the top of the sixth. A fielder's choice put Brayden Morrow on base, who subsequently stole second to move into scoring position.
Brandon Schrepf singled to left scoring Morrow and tying the game at 3-3.
Acevedo's sac-fly in the seventh scored the go-ahead run for the Pirates. Pensacola State never looked back from there, notching three more runs – two in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Dilan Lawson (0-7) took the loss for the Eagles, going 6.1 innings and striking out nine batters while allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Adams was 2-for-3 with an RBI-triple. Shortstop Trent Jeffcoat went 2-for-4 with an RBI-single.
The Eagles will duel the Pirates at home in a rematch at 5 p.m. Thursday.
