Eagles walk off to sweep TNXL

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 7, 2021) – Jeissy De La Cruz singled home Brendan Power in the bottom of the seventh to give Tallahassee Community College a 6-5, walk-off victory in game two of Wednesday's doubleheader against TNXL Academy.

Tallahassee won game one, 6-3.

The Eagles trailed 5-2 as game two moved to the bottom of the fifth. They scored a run in the fifth without the benefit of a hit.

Dilan Lawson drew a leadoff walk, stole second and, following a walk to Orlando Adams, moved to third on Power's sac-bunt. Two batters later, he scored on a passed ball to make it a 5-3 ball game.

Tallahassee scored twice with two outs in the sixth to tie the game. Lawson singled home Trent Jeffcoat for the first run of the inning. Nick Niewulis scored the tying run when he and Jeffcoat successfully executed a double steal.

Jacob Estes (2-4), the Eagles' third pitcher of game two, came on with two on and nobody out in the fifth. Although the Ducks pushed three runs across in the inning, none were earned and he was only charged with one run. He ended up pitching the final three innings to earn the victory.

Jeffcoat went 2-for-4 while Lawson and Power were each 2-for-2.

In game one, Tallahassee erased a 2-1 deficit with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth en route to the 6-3 win.

Lawson's two-run homer in the fourth put the Eagles in front, 3-2.

After TNXL tied the game in the top of the fifth, Tallahassee had an answer.

Orlando Adams led off the inning with a solo homer to put the Eagles in front. Later in the inning, back-to-back doubles by Niewulis and Lawson accounted for the final two runs.

Lawson was 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Dylan Faulkner (3-1) pitched the final three innings in relief of starter Matt Cooper to notch the victory.

Tallahassee will step back into Panhandle Conference play on Monday when it travels to Chipola College for a 6 p.m. first pitch with the Indians.
