Eagles downed in final home game

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 23, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team fell 7-1 to Northwest Florida State on Friday evening in its final home contest of the season. 

Nasir Fredrick started the scoring off with a two-run home run to put Northwest Florida State in front in the third. 

Tallahassee responded in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead in half with an RBI-single by Andrew Fernandez that scored Trent Jeffcoat. With the tying and go-ahead runs on the corners, Nick Niewulis popped up in foul territory to third base ending the threat. 

The Eagles outhit the Raiders, 7-3, through the first eight innings, but struggled with runners on base, stranding nine while striking out 16 times. 

Yet, the score was still 2-1 entering the top of the ninth. The Raiders collected five hits, including a pair of home runs, in the top of the ninth to plate five runs and make the score 7-2. 

Jeffcoat made a school-record 114th appearance on Friday and scored the Eagles' only run while going 2-for-5 with a pair of singles in his final game at Eagle field. 

Jeissy De La Cruz batted 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of singles as well. 

Tanner Martin struck out six batters in relief for the Eagles, going 4.1 innings and allowing one hit. 

Aidan Keenan (0-1) took the loss for Tallahassee. 

Saturday's season finale at Northwest Florida State has been moved to Sunday due to the likelihood of rain. Firs pitch is at 2 p.m. 

Prior to the game, Tallahassee recognized its outgoing sophomore class: Spencer Hanson, Trent Jeffcoat, Matt Boynton, Bryson Kirksey, Tanner Martin, Jacob Estes, Jeissy De La Cruz, Dilan Lawson, Patrick Libby, Andrew Crumbley, Brendan Power, Orlando Adams, Julian Barcelo, Joey Silvestri, Dylan Faulkner and Nick Niewulis.
