Eagles roll past State College of Florida in Shootout opener

OCALA, Fla. (December 13, 2014) – NJCAA No. 11/FCSAA No. 2 Tallahassee Community College defeated State College of Florida 87-60 on Saturday in day one of the annual Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout.

The Eagles were never threatened and led by as many as 30 points (73-43) in the second half en route to their 12th win in 13 games. 

Tallahassee shot 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the floor in the first half and knocked down five of ten three-point attempts to take control and a 45-27 halftime lead. The Eagles' shooting cooled off a little in the second half but they still scored 42 points and hit 35-of-69 field goal attempts for the game. 

Defensively, Tallahassee limited the Manatees to just 36.2 percent (21-of-58) shooting, won the battle on the boards (43-38) and forced 22 turnovers which it converted into 34 points. 

Dirk Williams led a quartet of Eagles in double-figures with 18 points. Cameron Smith scored 15 points and pulled down nine rebounds, Rysheed Corbin added 11 and Brandon Cheeks chipped in with 10. 

Up next is a highly-anticipated showdown against NJCAA No. 24/FCSAA No. 3 Eastern Florida State College at 4 p.m. Sunday on day two of the Classic. This will be the year's first game featuring a pair of nationally-ranked opponents from Region 8 as well as the first matching top three teams in the FCSAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll.
