Eagles snap losing skid in big win over FSCJ

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (December 13, 2015) – Daishon Smith recorded a triple-double and Austin Grimes pulled down 20 rebounds as Tallahassee Community College snapped a five-game losing streak on Sunday evening and did so emphatically, defeating Florida State College at Jacksonville, 107-67, to conclude the annual Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout.

The win moves Tallahassee to 8-7 on the season and ends a ten-game road trip that saw the Eagles go 4-6.

Smith had 24 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists – just the third triple-double in a quarter century of Eagle Basketball. He wasn't the only Eagle who enjoyed a big night.

Grimes, who made just his second start of the season, hit 6-of-10 field goal attempts to finish with 12 points. His 20 rebounds was the sixth 20-rebound game in school history and first since Marvell Waithe pulled down 21 vs. South Georgia Tech on November 18, 2008.

Behind Smith and Grimes, the Eagles dominated the glass, outrebounding the Blue Wave, 58-25.

After coming up on the short end of five straight games decided by ten points or less – the last four by single digits – the Eagles returned to the form that led to a 7-2 start, including four victories of 31 points or more.

Sunday's game was never in doubt.

Tallahassee shot 53.2 percent (25-of-47) from the floor in the first half and led 63-31. In the second stanza, the Eagles cooled off slightly, shooting "just" 46.9 percent (15-of-32) but knocked down half of their 14 three-point attempts and finished 13-of-31 for the game from long distance.

Conversely, Florida State College made just 24-of-73 field goal attempts.

Three other players reached double-figures for Tallahassee. David Simmons led all scorers with 25 points. Ryan Johnson scored 22 and Rashad Lewis added 15.

The Eagles will play their first home game since November 10 on Tuesday when they host Gordon (Ga.) State College for a 3 p.m. tip.
