POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (November 3, 2017) – NJCAA No. 13/Region 8 No. 4 Tallahassee Community College opened the 2017-18 season with an impressive 80-65 win over host Three Rivers (Mo.) College on Friday evening at the First Midwest Bank Classic.
Tallahassee (1-0) jumped on the Raiders from the outset, grabbing a 12-2 lead just over four minutes into the game and led 44-31 at the break.
The Eagles' lead grew to as many as 22 (54-32) in the second half.
Three players scored in double-figures for Tallahassee, including Corey Douglas, who recorded a double-double – 18 points and 14 rebounds – in his Eagle debut.
Trevor Lewis and Quentin Jackson, two more newcomers, joined Douglas in double-figures with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
Defensively, Tallahassee limited Three Rivers to just 39.0 (19-of-60) percent shooting from the floor overall and 3-of-19 on three-pointers while posting a +13 advantage (51-38) on the glass.
Tallahassee will return to play at 6 p.m. eastern on Saturday against Mineral Area (Mo.) College, who defeated Link Year Prep, 72-61, in Friday's first game at the Classic.
