#TCCBasketball: Eagles sweep Hillsborough, win eighth straight

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 28, 2017) - Tallahassee Community College continued its dominance to begin its season, winning its eighth consecutive game on Tuesday night 72-50 over Hillsborough Community College at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

Both teams got off to a slow start scoring a combined 17 points in the first seven minutes.

Tallahassee pulled away at the end of the first half and took a 38-28 lead halfway through the contest. 

The Eagles' lead only continued to grow in the second half. After taking a 3-2 lead, Tallahassee never trailed with its lead reaching as high as 24 points (72-48) in that second frame.

At the break, sophomore guard Javien Williams had 12 points. He would finish with a team-high 21 for Tallahassee.

"He's hard to defend because he's so quick and athletic, he's such a great finisher...It's hard to defend him," head coach Mark White said about the shining sophomore after Tuesday's game.

Corey Douglas had a huge presence near the rim for Tallahassee, logging a team-high 15 rebounds, 12 coming on offense, and seven blocks. Both were season highs. 

Coach White was excited to talk about Douglas' performance following the game. 

"I thought tonight (Corey) was at a different level. I thought his energy was tremendous...I thought it was by far his best game of the year." 

Despite the impressive offensive showing, Tallahassee's woes continued at the free throw line. 

Coming into Tuesday's game, the Eagles were shooting 65.8% from the line. That mark would be lowered by its 22-40 (55%) performance against Hillsborough.

Defensively, Tallahassee held Hillsborough to 35% shooting. Hillsborough was held scoreless from beyond-the-arc, failing to convert any of its nine attempts.

The Eagles recorded 12 steals with five different players logging multiple takeaways, led by C.J. Fisher who had three.

The Eagles can extend their winning streak to nine at the Jim Grimes Memorial Classic in Melbourne, Fla. on December 1 vs. Snow (Utah) College. Game time is 7 p.m.
