5 Men’s Basketball Players named to All-Conference teams

TALLAHASSEE, FL (February 25th, 2022) - Dericko Williams and Byron Smith were named to the All-Panhandle Conference First Team on Friday morning. 

Dericko Williams ended the regular season as the Eagles' leading scorer, putting up 11.4 points per game over 28 appearances. He shot 53.8% from the field, good for second in the Panhandle Conference and fifth in Region VIII. Williams was also the team's leading rebounder, with 7.9 per game. A defensive menace in the paint, Williams averaged 1.5 blocks per game, also the fifth highest in Region VIII. Williams scored 19 points in the regular season finale, going 7-10 from the field.

Byron Smith, in his first season in Tallahassee, averaged 10.1 points per game, shooting 42.7% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range. One of those threes sealed an 85-77 overtime victory against Gulf Coast State that helped the Eagles secure an at-large bid to the NJCAA Region VIII Tournament. Smith has reached double-digits in scoring in each of the last eight games, including a 21-point performance at Northwest Florida State, where he shot 5-9 from deep.

Michael Isler, Isiah Kirby, and Jack Doumbia were named to the All-Panhandle Conference Second Team. 

Michael Isler appeared in all 30 of the team's regular season games, starting in 26 of them. He shot 50.3% from the field and scored 7.6 points per game. Isler also finished the regular season with 5.2 rebounds per game. Isler also put together an incredible Sophomore Night performance, scoring 17. He shot 4-6 from the field and 9-13 from the free throw line. He also recorded seven rebounds and four assists. 

Isiah Kirby, one of the team's best ball distributors, had 2.1 assists per game in the regular season. Kirby shot 42.1% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range, averaging 8.7 points per game. On January 26th at Northwest Florida State, Kirby scored a season-high 16 points, going 4-5 from deep. 

Jack Doumbia averaged 7.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. Back on January 12th, Doumbia shined in the Eagles' first conference win of the season on the road at Pensacola State. He scored 14 points and recorded 2 steals in the 52-51 victory. 

The teams were announced leading up to the start of the NJCAA Region VII Tournament, which begins Wednesday, March 2nd in Niceville, FL. There, the Eagles will take on Indian River State in the quarterfinals. On November 5th, Tallahassee beat Indian River State 89-82 in the season opener.
