Eagles shine in home opener against Marion Military

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 14, 2022) - The Tallahassee Men's Basketball team moved to 3-1 on the season after a dominant 98-54 win in Monday's home opener over Marion Military Institute. In front of a crowd of 140, the Eagles threw down alley oops and made electric defensive plays throughout the game.

"We had all the energy, we didn't need any extra motivation," said sophomore guard Addison Patterson, who led the team in scoring with 18 points. When asked about what it felt like to play at home after three straight games on the road to start the season Patterson said, "It felt amazing," said Patterson, "especially with this group of guys. We've gelled so quick and gotten mad close in just a couple of months."

Coach Cabrera knew that Marion Military would come into the game looking to shoot three pointers. "I have to give our assistant coach (Chad) Bailey a lot of credit because it was his scout," said Cabrera. "And he made them look like the Golden State Warriors in the scout." The Eagles applied lots of pressure defensively around the perimeter, limiting them to just four made three-pointers made on 22 attempts.

The Eagles led 47-31 at the half, but Patterson knew that the game wasn't over just yet. "We know that they shoot well and shooting teams can get back into a game very quick," said Patterson, "so we just had to do exactly what we did in the first half."

After picking up their first loss of the season last Friday against Southern Union, Coach Cabrera's squad has bounced back with two straight wins. "We've got a ways to go, but I like where we're going right now."

The Eagles head to Waycross, Georgia this weekend to play two games as part of the South Georgia State Classic. They'll play East Georgia State on Friday evenign, and South Georgia State the following afternoon. They'll return home Tuesday, November 22 to take on the Santa Fe Saints. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM, and tickets can be purchased here
