Men's Basketball moves to 6-1 with win over Santa Fe

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 22, 2022) - The Eagles go into the Thanksgiving holiday on a high note with a 90-73 victory over the Santa Fe Saints, improving to 6-1 on the season. "I'm proud of these guys, they've figured it out," said head coach Rick Cabrera after Tuesday evening's comfortable win. "I'm still a little disappointed in certain areas, like finishing games, but that's what practice is for."

TCC forced 23 turnovers and scored 35 points off those turnovers, one of the biggest reasons they were able to maintain and grow their lead in the second half. "That's our mojo," said Cabrera, "we try to deny passing lanes, have gap protection on triple penetration, and our guys did that."

Okechukwu Okeke (F/C, Soph.) finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds, recording his first double double of the season. Okeke found his groove on the fast break, and in one play finished at the rim from an under-the-leg pass from teammate Malachi Davis (G, Soph.). "We take pride on defense so we can do that," said Okeke.

Tom Mark, who entered the game leading Region VIII in blocks per game, added three more to his tally.

The Eagles head to Marianna, FL for two games as part of the Thanksgiving Classic on Chipola's campus. On Friday, they'll take on LSU-Eunice with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 PM ET. Saturday, the Eagles have a rematch against Southern Union at 3:00 PM ET. Earlier this month in Niceville, TCC fell to the Bison 82-79.
