TCC wins big on Coach Cabrera's birthday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 4, 2022) - The Eagles defeated Forges Sports Academy 114-62 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the TCC Classic, improving to 10-1 and extending their winning streak to nine games. The longest winning streak under head coach Rick Cabrera came last season when the team rattled off ten straight in their last ten non-conference games. The Eagles can eclipse that number this weekend at the Florida JUCO Shootout when they take on Indian River State College and Eastern Florida State College.

TCC only led by six points at halftime, with Forges players Jaquay Randolph and Isaiah Anweiler knocking down several three point attempts. The Eagles played a near-flawless second half, outscoring Forges 69-23. The Eagles had six players in double-figures, with Okechukwu Okeke leading in scoring with 25 points. RayQuan Taylor scored 18 and led the team in rebounds with 11, recording his fourth carreer double double and his first at TCC.

The Eagles remain unbeaten at home, but travel to Melbourne, FL this weekend for two tough Region 8 matchups. Saturday's opponent, Indian River State will enter the game with a 10-1 record and ranked fifth in the NJCAA Region 8 Coaches' Poll. Last season the Eagles defeated Indian River State 89-82 in the season opener, but lost to the Pioneers in the quarterfinals of the FCSAA DI State Tournament. On Sunday, the Eagles take on Eastern Florida State, who are 9-2 and ranked seventh in the poll.

Notes:

  • Sunday was head coach Rick Cabrera's birthday, and he is now 2-0 during his TCC tenure on that day. Last season, TCC defeated DME Academy 101-57.
