Bio

Former Tallahassee Community College men's basketball standout Steve Cherry is a sixth-year assistant on the Eagles' staff.

Cherry joined former head coach Eddie Barnes' staff as a volunteer assistant in 2012 and served in that capacity for three seasons (2012-15). Current head coach Mark White made Cherry his first staff hire in August 2015.

Cherry's affiliation with the Eagles began in 2002 as a player for Barnes. During his two-year career with Tallahassee, he earned a pair of first-team All-Panhandle Conference and, as a sophomore, he was also named first-team All-FCSAA/All-NJCAA Region 8.

As a freshman in 2002-03, Cherry was one of the state's top sixth men, averaging 10.7 points per game off the Eagles' bench. He was even better in PC play, averaging 12.9 points per contest. The following season, he led the Eagles with a 14.3 points per game scoring average and was second on the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg).

After earning his associate's degree from TCC in 2004, Cherry attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga and played for the Moccasins from 2004-06.

In 54 career games at UTC, Cherry averaged 7.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. He also helped guide the Mocs to the 2005 Southern Conference Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

A native of Byron, Ga., Cherry graduated from Peach County High School where he lettered in four sports (basketball, cross country, track and football).

Cherry and his wife, Yashika, a Tallahassee native, have three children - Cortez, age 16; Cameron, age 10; and Kennedy, age 7.
