Leo Rutledge adds National Runner of the Week to resume

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 1, 2021) – Ten days ago, Tallahassee Community College freshman Leo Rutledge had yet to attend his first college class.

A week and a half later, Rutledge, a Tallahassee native and Maclay School grad, has not only made a successful transition as a student at TCC, but he has made his collegiate debut on the trails and picked up a pair of individual recognitions.

On Tuesday, he was named the Region 8 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Today, Rutledge earned the same honor from the NJCAA.

Rutledge made his collegiate debut at last weekend's TCC XC Open, which also served as his first-ever 8K event. All he did was finish as the top collegiate runner and placed second overall with a time of 28:52.61.

Rutledge and his teammates scored a head-to-head win over the University of Florida's running club in the team standings.

The Eagles will hit the trails again on Friday when they travel to Valdosta, Ga., for the annual VSU Border Challenge.
