Bryce Bass named the 2021-2022 Larry Monts Award winner

Bryce Bass has been named the winner of the 2021-2022 Larry Monts Award, given by the FCSAA to the top-scholar athlete for Men's Cross Country.

Bass graduated with honors from Tallahassee Community College in April with a 3.69 GPA. He also competed for the Eagles' Track and Field team, and participated in the NJCAA Half Marathon.

"Bryce has been a mainstay for the team in many ways," said Coach Gary Droze. "Not only was he a dependable and consistent scorer on the highest-placing team in school history, but he has also been invaluable on road trips. Bryce was my 'wing man,' assuming navigation duties with his phone's GPS app, while I focused on driving. Thanks to his alert assistance, we got to every away meet on time! And by setting the team standard in the classroom, Bryce prompted healthy competition within the squad for GPA bragging rights."

During his time at TCC, Bass led a volunteer group who assisted in storage unit relocation for Gulf Winds Track Club, helping move equipment across town. This past year, Tallahassee achieved a third place finish in the FCSAA/Region 8 Championships, in part due to Bass finishing 27th in the individual standings.

Shawn Marcum, another TCC Men's Cross Country student athlete, was a nominee for the award.
