BRADENTON, Fla. (March 14, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College wrapped up its pre-Panhandle Conference schedule on Thursday evening by splitting a doubleheader with NJCAA No. 6/FCSAA No. 3 State College of Florida on the Manatees' home field.
The Eagles cruised to a 12-2, five-inning victory in game one but was shutout, 3-0, in the nightcap.
Despite splitting its last five doubleheaders, Tallahassee has still won 10 of its last 16 overall and will carry a 16-14 record into Wednesday's Panhandle Conference opener.
On Thursday, Brittany Wright limited State College of Florida to just four hits in the Eagles' 12-2, game one win.
Wright got plenty of offensive support, most notably from Marina Cobbs, who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, and Brenda Santana, who was also 2-for-3 with a solo home run.
In the nightcap, Krysta Hoani only allowed six hits but came up on the short end of Tallahassee's 3-0 loss.
The Manatees got all the run support they needed in the first inning, courtesy of Ashley Burney's two-run homer.
Ashley Heath-Smith, Kelly Engwall and Cherise McEnery each went 1-for-3 to pace Tallahassee, offensively.
Tallahassee will host Pensacola State College for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 5 p.m.
