#TCCSoftball wins both on Saturday at JUCO Kickoff Tourney

CLEARWATER, Fla. (January 30, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College finished its opening weekend with a 3-1 record after sweeping a pair of games on Saturday at the JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase.

The Eagles defeated Gordon (Ga.) State College 7-0, in the opener then knocked off NJCAA (DII) No. 8 Illinois Central College, 13-5, in their final game of the weekend.

In Saturday's first game, Alexandra Cook (1-1) pitched a two-hit shutout in the Eagles' 7-0 win over Gordon State.

She struck out five.

The Eagles staked Cook to an early lead, scoring two runs in the third then put the game away with a three-run sixth.

Tallahassee pounded out 11 hits in the game, led by Elisa Cecchetti (2-for-3, two RBIs), Madisen Blair (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Alyssa Nesmith (2-for-3, RBI), who had multi-hit games.

Kristin Gunter was 1-for-3 with a run driven in.

The Tallahassee offense was on full display against Illinois Central. 

Blair and Cecchetti both went 3-for-4 while Blair drove in one run and Cecchetti, three. 

Khayreyah Parrish was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Casey Durham went 1-for-3 with a grand slam, the Eagles' first home run of the season. 

In the circle, Raya Moncus picked up the win to improve to 2-0.

The Eagles gave Moncus a quick 2-0 lead after an inning then blew the game wide open in the third, scoring nine runs, highlighted by Durham's long ball. Tallahassee finished the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Tallahassee will return to action on Thursday with its home opener – a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College at the TCC Softball Complex.
