#TCCSoftball splits at FPU Classic

MARIANNA, Fla. (February 13, 2016) – NJCAA Region 8 No. 10 Tallahassee Community College split a pair of games on day one of the Florida Public Utilities Softball Classic, hosted by Chipola College.

Tallahassee pulled out a 2-1 win over Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College then fell to Central Alabama Community College, 7-3.

In the opener, sophomore pitcher Alexandra Cook went the distance in the 2-1 victory. She allowed only three hits and struck out six.

A bases-loaded error by Spartanburg Methodist plated Tallahassee's first run of the game in the top of the first. The game remained 1-0 until Spartanburg Methodist tied it up with a fourth-inning run.

Then, in the top of the fifth, Kristin Gunter's solo homer put the Eagles back in front with what proved to be the game-winning RBI.

She finished 2-for-3 and also had a single.

Madisen Blair was 1-for-3.

In game two, Tallahassee committed eight errors in the 7-3 loss to Central Alabama.

Raya Moncus took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee, despite not allowing a single earned run. She gave up five hits and walked one while striking out one.

Blair led the Eagles offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double and a home run. Gunter and Khayreyah Parrish had RBI-doubles.

Tallahassee will play two more games at the Classic on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. eastern against Hillsborough Community College.
