#TCCSoftball swept at home by St. Pete

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 27, 2016) - Tallahassee Community College's softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of St. Petersburg College on Saturday, losing by the scores of 7-1 and 5-1.

The losses dropped Tallahassee to .500 on the season at 9-9 while St. Petersburg moved north of the break-even mark and is now 15-13.

In game one, St. Petersburg only outhit Tallahassee, 10-9, but the Eagles were but 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the 7-1 loss.

The Titans got on the board with four runs in the third. Alexis Martinez started the scoring with a bases-loaded double, and she scored on a double by Keeley Mayers.

Tallahassee got one of the runs back in its half of the third when Alycia Smith stole home on a perfectly executed double steal with Kristin Gunter

St. Petersburg put the game away in the fifth.

The Titans collected four hits in the inning and, aided by a couple of Tallahassee errors, plated three runs to extend their lead to 7-1.

Tallahassee put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth – consecutive singles by Gunter, pinch hitter Alyssa NeSmith and Madisen Blair loaded the bases, but Brooke Bates flied out to right to end the inning and leave the bases loaded.

Smith, Gunter and Jaylene Pryor accounted for seven of the Eagles' nine hits.

Smith was 3-for-4 and scored a run. Gunter and Pryor were 2-for-3 each.

Raya Moncus (3-5) took the loss in the circle for the Eagles.

Game two followed a similar script.

Both teams had six hits, but the Eagles were 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position and stranded six runners in the 5-1 loss.

St. Petersburg did all of its damage during a five-run fourth in which it batted around and had six hits.

Tallahassee scored its lone run of the game in the fifth, courtesy of Gunter's sac-fly that plated Julianne Gillo, who had led off the inning with a single.

Gillo was the lone Tallahassee player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.

Alexandra Cook took the loss in the circle for the Eagles.

Tallahassee is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Santa Fe College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
