TCC Softball falls to FSW, IRSC on day two of CMI

LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 23, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College's rugged non-conference softball schedule continued on Sunday with games against nationally-ranked Florida SouthWestern State College and Indian River State College on day two of the Courtney Miller Invitational.

In Sunday's first game, Tallahassee fell to NJCAA No. 3 Florida SouthWestern, 12-4. No. 9 Indian River State knocked off the Eagles, 6-1, in their final game of the event.

Florida SouthWestern scored four runs in each of its first two at-bats and the score remained 8-0 into the fifth.

Needing at least one run to extend the game, Tallahassee found itself down to its final out after the first two batters struck out.

Dyamond Brown singled to keep the Eagles alive and the next four runners reached base as well. With two runs already in, Katelyn Hobbs smacked a two-run homer to cut the Bucs' lead in half, 8-4.

FSW got the runs back in the bottom half of the inning, however, to end the game via the mercy rule.

Shelbea Holland (0-1) took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee.

Hobbs was 1-for-3 with the home run and two RBIs.

Against Indian River State, the Eagles managed just five hits in the 6-1 loss.

Tallahassee scored its only run in the fifth when Jade Castillo scored from third on Esmee Toet's line out to center.

Emma Fowler (3-6) took the loss for the Eagles.

Tallahassee (5-12) will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
