Eagles roll past Hillsborough for sixth straight win

TAMPA, Fla. (December 3, 2015) – Four players scored in double-figures to lead NJCAA Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College to a 67-39 win at Hillsborough Community College on Thursday evening in women's basketball action. 

With the win, Tallahassee completed the season sweep against Hillsborough, ran its winning streak to six in a row and improved to 9-3 on the season. 

Lawriell Wilson led all scorers with 21 points for the Eagles. She hit 8-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-6 three-pointers. She also tallied eight rebounds and four assists. 

Janessa Murphy added 13 points, eight rebounds and five assists. 

Monique Calliste had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Destinee McQueen scored ten points and pulled down five boards. 

Tallahassee all but put the game away with a 19-0 run over the closing minutes of the first quarter and opening minute of the second. 

Calliste broke a 5-all tie by hitting one of two from the line at the 3:51 mark of the first quarter. Tallahassee led 16-5 at the end of the first and scored the first eight points of the second, capped by a three-pointer from Murphy, to grab a 24-5 advantage just 50 seconds into the quarter. 

Hillsborough ended a near-nine minute scoring drought with a basket from Ja'niya McNealy at the 8:06 mark. 

The Eagles closed the half on a 9-0 run, courtesy of a trio of three-pointers, including two from Wilson, and led 46-20 at the break. 

Tallahassee coasted home in the second half, outscoring Hillsborough 15-11 in the third to lead 61-31. Neither team hit double-digits in the fourth, as the Hawks outscored the Eagles, 8-6. 

Tallahassee will break for final exams then return to action with games in Marianna, Fla., December 11 and 12.
