Eagle women come up short against undefeated Gulf Coast State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 19, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College's upset bid against unbeaten Gulf Coast State College came up short on Tuesday evening, as the Eagles fell 64-61 in Panhandle Conference women's basketball action.

The loss extended the Eagles' (12-10, 1-4 PC) losing streak to four games, the last three by six points or fewer. Gulf Coast State escaped the Bill Hebrock Eagledome with its perfect record intact, now 19-0 overall and 5-0 in PC play.

Tallahassee played from behind most of the evening but never allowed Gulf Coast State to deliver the knockout punch.

The Lady Commodores surged to a 32-23 lead with 1:48 left in the second quarter, but six unanswered points pulled Tallahassee to within three before going to the locker room trailing 34-29.

Both teams scored 19 points in the third quarter, leaving Tallahassee with a 53-48 deficit heading to the fourth.

Audrey-Ann Goudreau opened the fourth quarter scoring with a three-pointer, giving the Lady Commodores an eight-point lead (56-48), but that was their largest advantage of the final ten minutes.

Tallahassee scored the next seven points, capped by Monique Calliste's three-pointer that brought the Eagles within a point, 56-55, with 4:07 remaining.

Gulf Coast State extended its lead back to six but Sabrina Banks' three-pointer cut it in half with 1:37 left. The Lady Commodores again opened up a six-point lead, and Tallahassee didn't score again until Lawriell Wilson's three-pointer with :0.3 left on the clock, which provided the game's final points.

Wilson finished with 17 points to lead Tallahassee. Eboni Watts added 14 and Banks scored 11. Calliste finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Tallahassee will return to action on Saturday at Pensacola State College. Game time is 6:30 p.m. eastern.
