Chipola women too much for Tallahassee

MARIANNA, Fla. (January 26, 2016) – NJCAA No. 6/Region 8 No. 3 Chipola College raced out to a 25-15 lead after one quarter and never looked back, defeating Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College 91-40 on Tuesday evening in women's basketball action.

Tallahassee (13-11) fell to 2-5 in Panhandle Conference play and is now a full game back of third place Northwest Florida State College (2-3). The Eagles are just one half game ahead of fifth place Pensacola State College (1-5).

Chipola, the reigning NJCAA champions, jumped on the Eagles early and never let up.

Tallahassee found itself down by double-digits (15-4) less than five minutes into the game and trailed 25-15 after the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, the deficit was still ten (31-21) but Chipola closed on a 12-5 run over the final 5:16 and led 43-26 at the intermission.

The second half was all Chipola, as the Indians held Tallahassee to single digits in both the third and fourth quarters, outscoring the Eagles 48-14 over the final 20 minutes.

Tallahassee, who managed to shoot just 27.8 percent (15-of-54) from the field, had only two players reach double-figures – Lawriell Wilson with 13 and Eboni Watts with 10.

The Eagles will enjoy a bye in the conference schedule on Saturday then return to action at home Tuesday, February 2 against Northwest Florida State College.
