Eagles pull away late to down Pensacola State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 6, 2016) – Region 8 No. 6 Tallahassee Community College picked up a crucial victory on Saturday, defeating Pensacola State College 53-41 in women's basketball action.

With the win, Tallahassee (15-11) improved to 4-5 in Panhandle Conference play, 1.5 games ahead of idle Northwest Florida State College for the league's third and final postseason berth.

After an emotional win at home on Tuesday against Northwest Florida State, the Eagles struggled to get anything going offensively against the Pirates.

Tallahassee led just 13-8 after one quarter and appeared ready to pull away, scoring the first three points of the second quarter to grab a 16-8 lead. But the Eagles managed just three points over the final nine-plus minutes of the quarter and led 19-16 at the break.

The Eagles led 35-28 after the third quarter and were clinging to a 42-39 lead with just over two minutes left. Lawriell Wilson's basket with 2:17 remaining made it a two-possession game, and the Eagles closed on an 11-2 run to finally put the game away.

Wilson finished with 12 points, one of three players in double-figures for Tallahassee. Eboni Watts and Sabrina Banks had 13 points each.

While Pensacola State dominated the glass, outrebounding Tallahassee 49-34, the Eagles forced 32 turnovers and converted those into 28 points.

Tallahassee will travel to Gulf Coast State College on Wednesday for a 6:30 p.m. date with the Commodores.
