#TCCBasketball: Eagle women come up short against Chipola
MARIANNA, Fla. (January 14, 2017) – Chipola College rallied from a seven-point deficit in the third quarter and defeated Tallahassee Community College, 91-86, in women's basketball action on Saturday evening.
For Region 8 No. 4/NJCAA No. 11 Tallahassee, its record fell to 16-3 overall and 1-2 in Panhandle Conference play. For No. 2/No. 3 Chipola, it improved to 17-1 overall and evened its PC record at 1-1.
Tallahassee led 37-34 at the half and quickly extended its lead to 43-36 at the 7:39 mark of the third quarter but the host Indians heated up from the three-point line and made a surge.
Two free throws gave Chipola a 52-51 lead and Raven Baker-Northcross' basketball broke a 52-all tie with 3:10 left in the third.
The Indians never trailed again and led by as many as 10, including an 81-71 lead with 3:51 left in the game.
Tallahassee went on a 10-2 run and pulled within 83-81 on Janessa Murphy's basket with 1:40 left but couldn't complete the comeback.
Free throws were problematic all night for Tallahassee. The Eagles finished just 19-of-33 from the charity stripe while Chipola shot 14-of-20.
Lawriell Wilson finished with 32 points for the Eagles. Japonica James had 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jas Hill scored 11.
Sydnee McDonald hit 7-of-9 three-pointers and finished with 34 points for Chipola. Danielle Garvin had 18, Baker-Northcross had 17 and Barbara Johnson, 15.
Tallahassee will return to action next Saturday night when it hosts Northwest Florida State College at 5:30 p.m.
