Eagles soar at FAMU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 1, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's track team participated in the prestigious FAMU Relays on March 27.

In addition to the host Florida A&M Rattlers, the Eagles competed against six other four-year programs: Southeastern, Albany State, Dillard, Fort Valley State, Florida Memorial and Edward Waters.

Tallahassee came away with one event win – sophomore Mia Wiederkehr in her bread-and-butter, the 800m. Wiederkehr knocked more than four seconds off her March 20 time, finishing in 2:21.50, just .80 from a qualifying mark for the NJCAA Championships.

Freshman Jacquell Lewis made her Eagle debut, running in the 100m. She finished third in her heat and just missed advancing to the finals. Her time of 12.92 was good for ninth overall in the prelims.

Teammate Olivia Vigille also ran the 100m and finished in 20th in the prelims with a time of 14.73.

On the men's side, the 400m produced the Eagles' most exciting finish of the day. After Ke'Adre Thompson (53.12) won the first heat by more than a second, Tristen Owens charged from behind to win heat number two.

Owens entered the final turn in fourth place, but passed three runners to finish first in a time of 50.56, good for sixth overall. Thompson placed tenth.

Nasir Washington, who also ran in Owens' heat, placed 14th in 59.27.

Thompson also ran the 200m, where he finished 20th in 23.92.

Rodolph Adonis and Mat Maier placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 800m. Adonis posted a time of 2:03.91 while Maier finished in 2:08.08.

Bryce Bass ran to a fourth-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 4:27.45.

Tallahassee was originally scheduled to run in Saturday's Alice Coachman Invitational at Albany State University, but has revised its schedule and will now compete in the PURE Athletics Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 4. The event will take place at the National Training Center in Clermont.
