Printiss named FCSAA’s top female XC scholar-athlete
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 22, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College's Genevieve Printiss has been named the inaugural recipient of the Florida College System Activities Association's Larry Monts Scholar-Athlete Award for women's cross country.
The award, presented to the top scholar-athlete in both men's and women's cross country, is named for Monts, who was a long-time cross country and track and field coach at Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Printiss, a native of Carrabelle, Fla., starred on the trails for the Eagles in 2018 and 2019 and was poised to run her second season of outdoor track before the COVID-19 crisis ended the spring sports season last month. Last fall, she finished third at the FCSAA Championships to earn All-State honors and finished 67th overall at the NJCAA Championships, running the second-fastest time among all Region 8 participants.
She was named NJCAA Female Runner of the Week on October 17 after posting a school-record 5K time of 20:04.5 at the prestigious FSU Invitational, where she was the top two-year runner.
As a freshman, Printiss also participated in the NJCAA Half Marathon, finishing 32nd overall, and was the Eagles' first-ever qualifier for the NJCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing 25th in the 1500m.
"Beyond the accomplishments and accolades, Genevieve has been a model ambassador for our athletics program," said director of athletics Rob Chaney. "She is a leader, always encouraging and pushing her teammates to strive for excellence, and has represented her team and our program with the utmost character and integrity. She embodies the term 'student-athlete' and is the type of individual any athletic director would wish to have in their program."
Academically, Printiss has few rivals. She currently boasts a 4.0 GPA and will graduate next month with her A.A. degree. To date, she has twice been named a NJCAA Cross Country Scholar All-American and was named All-Academic by the NJCAA, FCSAA and Panhandle Conference in 2019, honors she will repeat later this spring. She is also a nominee for the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Printiss will enroll in the University of Florida's School of Forest Resources & Conservation this fall and is considering running for UF's renowned club team.
By virtue of receiving the Monts Award, Printiss is a finalist for the FCSAA's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which will be announced in May.
