ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 16, 2012) - After opening the season with four consecutive games decided by three points or less, FCSAA No. 9 Tallahassee Community College (3-2) finally enjoyed a breather, defeating No. 7 St. Petersburg College, 72-51, on Friday evening.
Curtis Diamond led five Eagles in double-figures with 17 points and six assists. Marlon Johnson added a double-double - 12 points and 10 rebounds. Trevor McDade also scored 12 while Jonathan Hood and Bernard Kline added 10 points apiece.
Despite shooting 38.5 percent (10-of-26) from the floor in the first half, Tallahassee carried a 34-24 lead to the locker room, thanks in large part to its defense, which limited the Titans to just 9-of-34 (26.5 percent) shooting.
The Eagles opened the second half on a 19-5 run to effectively put the game away.
Diamond hit all three of his three-point attempts, as the Eagles shot 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from the three-point line, just slightly better than the 41.1 percent (23-of-56) they shot overall. Meanwhile, St. Petersburg hit only 19-of-70 (27.1 percent) overall and 3-of-25 (12.0 percent) from long distance.
Tallahassee will wrap up its four-game road trip on Saturday with a 4 p.m. tip at Daytona State College.
