Pair of SoCon foes up next for Eagle men

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 14, 2013) – Tallahassee Community College's men's basketball team has arrived in Ocala, Fla., where it will open play in the annual Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout at 6 p.m. Saturday against Palm Beach State College.

The Eagles second game of the weekend will come at 6 p.m. Sunday against another opponent from the Southern Conference, Broward College.

Both games will be carried live on NJCAA TV.

Tallahassee (7-4) is currently ranked seventh in the FCSAA Men's Basketball Coaches' Poll and has yet to lose a game that has gone the full 40 minutes. The November 16 game at Daytona State College was stopped after just six minutes, and the Eagles forfeited the next three games on their schedule.

Judging the Eagles by what they've done on the court, the Massey Computer Ratings has Tallahassee ranked fifth nationally with an unofficial record of 7-0. Massey is one of the six computer ratings used by the soon-to-be defunct Bowl Championship Series.

At the Shootout, Tallahassee will play a pair of teams who are anything but regular opponents on its schedule.

The Eagles and Palm Beach State have only hooked up 11 times over the years, with Tallahassee holding an 8-3 advantage head-to-head. Palm Beach State, however, won the teams' last meeting, 86-69 on November 20, 2010.

Sunday's game against Broward will be just the second time the Eagles and Seahawks have ever played – the fewest of any FCSAA school. The lone meeting between the two teams came more than two decades ago when Tallahassee earned a 106-77 win on November 7, 1992.
