Eagles hold on to defeat Broward at Shootout

OCALA, Fla. (December 15, 2013) - FCSAA No. 7 Tallahassee Community College opened up a 19-point lead in the second half then held on to defeat Broward College, 79-72, on the final day of action at the annual Florida College's Men's Basketball Shootout, hosted by the College of Central Florida.

Tallahassee is now 9-4 heading into Tuesday's 4 p.m. home date against St. Petersburg College. Broward falls to 11-3.

Leading by seven points at the intermission, Tallahassee opened the second half on a 21-9 run to grab a 60-41 lead. But Broward got hot from long distance, forced several turnovers by the Eagles and took advantage of some missed free throws to close the final margin on the scoreboard.

Tallahassee shot 63.6 percent (14-of-22) in the first half en route to a 39-32 lead and finished the game 25-of-47 (53.2 percent) overall. Defensively, the Eagles held Broward below 40 percent in both halves and the Seahawks shot just 38.5 percent (25-of-65) for the game.

The Eagles also dominated the glass, outrebounding Broward 44-29.

Earvin Morris, who scored 19 points, pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Elmo Stephen hit 8-of-11 shots and finished with a team-high 23 points. Dirk Williams added 20.

Tuesday will be the Eagles' final game until after Christmas.
