Eagles Hit The Road In Conference Play

TALLAHASSEE,  Fla. (January 6, 2015) – The Tallahassee Eagles basketball teams hit the road to take on conference opponent Pensacola State College on Wednesday, January 7.

The Eagles are coming off of their conference opener against nationally ranked Northwest Florida State in games that saw the women knock-off the No. 4 Raiders while the men took their game to the final minute against the nations no. 2 ranked team. 

The women will begin the night when their game tips-off against the Pirates at 6:30 p.m.  The Eagles are coming off of their victory over nationally ranked Northwest Florida State in a game that saw Cat Wells set a season high for points scored at 28.  Wells shoot 10-of-19 from the floor while going 5-of-8 from behind the three-point line.  Not only was Wells' impressive scoring the ball but she continued to fill out the rest of the stat sheet with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals.

The Pirates enter the game with an 8-9 record after suffering a loss in their conference opener to nationally ranked Chipola College.  In their 17 games this season the Pirates are averaging 65.6 points a game on 38.2 percent shooting.  The Pirates offense attack is led by sophomore forward Alaysia Mitchell who averages 16.8 points per game.  Mitchell has scored in double figures in all but two of the Pirates games this year eclipsing the 20-point mark six times and the 30-point mark once.  She has also recorded nine double-doubles over the course of this season

Mitchell also helps lead the Pirates' attack on the boards as she pulls down an average of 9.3 rebounds per game. Tyisha Moore leads the team in rebounds per game with 9.5. 

The Eagle men will face the Pirates in the second game of the night and it's also the second game of conference play for both teams.  Coming off of their loss to Northwest Florida State the Eagles are looking to get to .500 early in conference play.  Elmo Stephen led all scorers in their game Saturday night with 27 points and also recorded 5 rebounds, 4 of which where on the offensive side of the ball.

The Pirate men are entering the game with a 12-6 record and fresh off of a double overtime victory over Chipola College.  Johnell Ginnie leads all scorers with 14.3 points on an impressive 68 percent shooting.  Ginnie gets to the line often as he averages 7.3 free throws a game.  The Pirates' Rozelle Nix and Shamar Johnson team up to attack the boards for the Pirates with Nix pulling down an average of 9.2 and Johnson grabbing 7.2 a game.

After Wednesday's game the Eagles will return home on Saturday, January 10 against Gulf Coast State at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.
