#TCCSoftball: Eagles fall 1-0 in season opener

CLEARWATER, Fla. (January 27, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College opened its 2017 season on Friday at the JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase and dropped a 1-0 decision to Miami Dade College. 

In a battle of top ten teams in Region 8 – No. 9 Tallahassee and No. 10 Miami Dade – the game evolved into a pitcher's duel, one finally decided in the top of the sixth when the Sharks broke through against Tallahassee's Raya Moncus.

Moncus walked a batter then allowed a double that plated the only run of the game. 

Despite coming up on the short end of outcome, Moncus was brilliant in her season debut. She went the distance in the circle, allowing only three hits while striking out seven. 

Offensively, Tallahassee was led by Kristin Gunter, who went 2-for-3. Elisa Cecchetti and Alyssa NeSmith each went 1-for-3. 

Tallahassee will play three games on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. against Eastern Florida State College.
