#TCCSoftball splits behind Gunter’s record day

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (February 4, 2017) – Playing at the prestigious Triple Crown College Classic, Tallahassee Community College's softball team split a pair of games on day one of the weekend event.

Tallahassee pounded St. Johns River State College, 14-1, in its first game of the day then dropped a 4-1 decision to Florida State College at Jacksonville.

In the opener, the Eagles played long ball, smacking four home runs in the runaway victory.

Alyssa Rosenbaum hit the Eagles' first homer of the day, a three-run shot to cap a four-run first inning. From there, it was the Kristin Gunter show.

Gunter, a sophomore third baseman from Pensacola, Fla., homered in the third, fourth and fifth innings, becoming the first player in school history to hit three home runs in a game.

Gunter's solo shot in the third put Tallahassee in front, 5-0. Her first three-run homer of the day extended the Eagles' lead to 10-1. She finished the day with another three-run bomb to cap a 3-for-4, three-homer, seven-RBI morning.

Raya Moncus threw four innings to notch the win. She allowed four hits and one earned run.

Casey Durham joined Gunter by going 3-for-4. Rosenbaum finished 1-for-2 with a homer and three RBIs.

Against Florida State College at Jacksonville, Tallahassee again scored in its first at-bat.

Alycia Smith tripled and came home on Elisa Cecchetti's double, but that turned out to be the Eagles' only run of the game.

Cecchetti went 2-for-4.

The Blue Wave tied the game in the fourth then plated three runs in the sixth to surge ahead.

Callie Paine took the loss in the circle for Tallahassee, despite allowing only one earned run and four hits in the complete-game effort.

Tallahassee will play a pair of Southern Conference foes on Sunday, beginning with a 9 a.m. game against Palm Beach State College. The Eagles will close play at 11:15 a.m. against Indian River State College.
