#TCCSoftball: Chipola takes two from Eagles

MARIANNA, Fla. (April 1, 2017) – Chipola College swept a doubleheader from Tallahassee Community College on Saturday, winning by the scores of 8-6 and 10-2.

In the opener, a five-run sixth by the host Indians left Tallahassee facing an 8-1 deficit entering the seventh inning. The Eagles, however, made things more than interesting in their final at-bat.

With two runners in scoring position, Cassidy Strickling's one-out single scored Brooke Bates with the first run of the inning. The next batter, Kristin Gunter, smacked a three-run homer to left and cut the Indians' lead to 8-5.

After a walk to Elisa Cecchetti and Casey Durham's single, the Eagles brought the tying run to the plate, still with just one out in the inning. Alyssa NeSmith popped out to third, but Samantha Malik followed with an RBI-single to bring Tallahassee within two.

With the go-ahead run now at the plate, Brandi Callaway grounded out to short to end the game.

Cecchetti was 2-for-3 and Strickling, 2-for-4. Gunter finished 1-for-4 with the three-run homer.

Raya Moncus (9-8) took the game one loss for the Eagles.

In game two, Chipola erased a 2-1 deficit with a nine-run fourth inning and won, 10-2, in five innings.

Down 1-0, Tallahassee took the lead in the third on one swing – Gunter's second homer of the day, a two-run blast, her team-leading 12th of the season.

Cecchetti had Tallahassee's only other game two hit.

The Eagles took the 2-1 lead to the bottom of the fourth, but the Indians sent 14 batters to the plate en route to a nine-run inning.

Bates, making her first appearance in the circle this season, took the loss for Tallahassee.

Tallahassee (18-18, 2-10 Panhandle Conference) will host Pensacola State College for a doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m.
