#TCCBasketball: Eagle women bounce back to beat Chipola

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 9, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team bounced back from its first loss with a resounding 93-72 win over arch-rival Chipola College on Tuesday evening inside the Bill Hebrock Eagledome. 

Tallahassee improved to 16-1 overall and evened its Panhandle Conference record at 1-1. Chipola, who was playing its PC opener after having the bye on Saturday, is now 11-5. 

The 21-point victory is Tallahassee's largest in the series since a 77-54 win on January 26, 2002 and its 93 points is the most against Chipola since scoring 100 on February 5, 2000. 

Tallahassee essentially put the game away in the game's first seven minutes, sprinting to a 21-0 lead. 

Jas Hill started the scoring with a basket in the paint, a recurring theme on Tuesday. Seven different players scored during the initial onslaught, capped by Mari Hill's basket at the 2:44 mark. 

Cortajia Sanders finally got Chipola on the board with a field goal with 2:32 left, and the Indians closed on a 12-2 run, including 10 unanswered to end the quarter and trailed 23-12. 

Tallahassee regained the momentum with eight straight points – six courtesy of (Jas) Hill – and led 41-21 at the midway point of the second. By halftime, the lead had reached 23 (51-28). 

The Eagles led by as many as 33 points, 68-35, following Nakiah Black's jumper with 3:23 left in the third quarter and the lead was 70-45 entering the fourth. 

Jada Perry came off the bench to score a team-high 19 points for Tallahassee. She hit 8-of-13 from the floor, doing most of her damage in the paint, where the Eagles had a 56-22 advantage. 

Four other players scored in double-figures for Tallahassee. 

(Jas) Hill had 17 followed by (Mari) Hill with 11. Jamyra McChristine and Stella Logbognon had 10 points each. 

McChristine had 11 rebounds for her second straight double-double. 

Despite scoring 93 points, Tallahassee turned the ball over 36 times, just one shy of the school record. But after forcing just 20 turnovers in Saturday's loss at Gulf Coast State, the Eagles watched Chipola commit 34 on Tuesday. 

Tallahassee will have a week off before traveling to Northwest Florida State College on January 17. 

Eagles suffer minor drop in polls following loss 

Tallahassee survived its first loss of the season relatively well when the first region and national polls of 2018 were released on Tuesday. 

The Eagles fell only two spots to No. 6 in the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Poll, immediately behind No. 4 Gulf Coast State and No. 5 Northwest Florida State. 

Pensacola State College stayed put at No. 10 and Chipola slipped to No. 20. 

In the NJCAA Region 8 Coaches' Poll, Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State switched positions, with the Eagles now checking in at No. 3.
