#TCCWXC takes third in inaugural meet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 26, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College debuted its newest sport on Friday when the women's cross country team participated in the Cougar XC Challenge, hosted by Godby High School.

The Eagles didn't have to travel far for their first-ever event, making the short drive to Phipps Park, located on Tallahassee's north side.

A nice contingent of supporters, including several members of the Eagles' softball team and head baseball coach Mike McLeod, watched Samantha Reilly complete the 5 kilometer course in a team-best 23:27.31, good for a seventh-place finish.

Mia Wiederkehr finished just outside the top ten. Her time of 24:03.17 was good for 11th overall, less than five seconds behind the tenth-place finisher.

NAIA member Life University took the team title with 32 points and an average of 23:03.00 per runner. NJCAA Region 8 foe Pasco-Hernando State College finished second with 39 points followed by Tallahassee (75 points) and Chipola College (90 points).

Monet Madeux (16th, 24:36.31), Jeanna Prisco (21st, 26:37.69) and Ellie Stubblefield (25th, 27:41.36) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles.

First-time runners Clover Carithers (30th, 30:09.40) and Jasmine Green (33rd, 31:16.75) finished just more than a minute apart while Regan Ward crossed the line immediately behind Green in a time of 31:29.47.

Tallahassee will return to the course in four weeks when it participates in the Prefontaine Forest Run 5K, a community event sponsored by Gulf Winds Track Club and held at Silver Lake.
