TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 7, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College men’s basketball David Simmons has signed a national letter of intent with Middle Tennessee State University.

A native of Henderson, Ken., Simmons was one of Tallahassee head coach Mark White’s first signees after being hired by the Eagles in April 2015. All Simmons did in his two seasons was lead Tallahassee to back-to-back 20-win campaigns and berths in the 2016 and 2017 FCSAA state tournament.

In 61 career games, Simmons averaged 13.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.1 steals. He was the Panhandle Conference Freshman of the Year in 2016 after averaging 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists – numbers that also earned him First-team FCSAA All-State and First-team All-PC honors.

Simmons was named First-team All-PC for a second time in 2017.

At Middle Tennessee State, he will join a program that has emerged on the national stage the last two seasons under head coach Kermit Davis – once the head coach at Panhandle Conference rival Chipola College (1993-94).

Playing as a No. 15 seed in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, the Blue Raiders upset No. 2 seed Michigan State. Last season, MTSU scored the 12-5 (seed) upset over Minnesota before bowing out in the second round.

MTSU, the two-time defending Conference USA Tournament Champions, is located in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
